Labor Day - theme work

For the theme work and it being Labor Day, I thought I would share some pictures of the logging industry where my Grandfather, John Schoenewald, worked in Idaho and Montana in the 1920's.

John and Emmeline married in 1928.  They continued to moved around in the various logging camps with Emmeline working as a cook while John was logger * until their first child was about 4 years old.  Then they decided to move to Oregon where they could have a more settled life just outside of town.

A logger works in the lumber industry, cutting down trees and loading them for transportation. Typical job duties involve cutting, skidding, and pre-processing the logs. The logs are then processed into boards, paper, and other valuable materials. Most loggers work in teams of two to safely fell timber. (source: ziprecruiter.com)
