I am a bit behind so hopefully I can get some through more of the "themes" that were part of the Amy Crow challenge this year.
Since I am mostly writing stories around my Mother's parents, the theme "sports" is a challenge as I have not heard of any stories where they or their siblings were involved in a sporting event so I thought I would write a little about my sport as a kid at my Mother's parent's house in Ashland.
It was during the time when roller skates were the metal kind that would fit on the bottom of your shoe. It has a "key" to tighten or loosen the tabs that held the skate to the shoe. Here is a picture I found on the internet.
I remember we were allowed to skate along the sidewalk outside of the yard. The sidewalk was not smooth and not without uneven places between the cracks. We fell a lot. But I have great memories skating. It's interesting how the skates have changed throughout the years.
My mother, Patricia, has told us stories how she was a great skater when she was in high school. She would love traveling to Ontario Oregon to skate. Roller Skating was a sport for Mom.
What memories do you have roller skating?
