The Hollingsworth Family Line - 52 Ancestors in 52 weeks challenge - Week 4

Week-4 Theme:  At the Library
This week’s theme for the 52 Ancestors in 52 weeks challenge by Amy Johnson Crow is:
 At the Library

Since some of my Hollingsworth family was in Virginia in the 1700s, I decided to check out what I could find in our little Library.  It has a small section for genealogy research and lots of books for the state of Virginia.

The Line is on my mother’s side.  Her mother was a HOLLINGSWORTH.

Thomas Hollingsworth and his grandson, Abraham Hollingsworth, moved from Delaware to Frederick County in northern Virginia, where in 1732 they established a 582-acre estate among a group of fellow Quakers. Abraham’s son Isaac inherited the estate, but his other son, George, moved on south to an area near Newberry, South Carolina. George’s Line migrated to Indiana, then Nebraska and to Idaho where my mother was born.  Finally settling in Oregon where my Great Grandpa William Farrell Hollingsworth died.

It was interesting to find a book that had some abstract information regarding wills.
Such as:

“Wife Ann, to receive the best feather bed, riding hourse and saddle.  To son George, 250 acres of land. Being part of 1000 acres -- 250 acres of land lying adjoining to the land I gave to Benjamin Carter on both sides of the creek called the Beaver Dam.  To son Isaac Hollingsworth, 582 acres of land.  To son George Hollingsworth, 7 pounds and 10 shillings.  To daughter Lydia Neil, feather bed and furniture.  Exrs: wife Ann, son-in-law Lewis Neil and son Isaac Hollingsworth.  Wit: William Dobbin, James Dunbar, Joseph Lupton.”

And information regarding Abstracts of Virginia Land Patents and Grants such as:

“Josiah Ballenger, 500 acs., adj. a Tract surveyed for George Hollingsworth at Hannah's Spring; 12 Nov 1735, p. 364 [see note]”

Based on the family stories, the above is in our family branch; however, I am still in the process of researching this branch of the family and have not yet connected the information listed above to my line but it’s a “clue” that I can work with.

The Hollingsworth came from Ireland in the 1600s to America.  There has been a lot of research done and I have just started my journey to find all the facts. My research is to start with my Grandparents and find the link for each Line moving backwards.

Stay tuned for more stories of their life……
