Week-6 Theme: Surprise
This week’s theme for the 52 Ancestors in 52 weeks challenge
by Amy Johnson Crow is: SURPRISE
Since I have only began my journey into the lives of my
ancestors, I have yet come across anything that I can say is a SURPRISE. So, I am taking a different approach on the
word/theme SURPRISE.
I had no idea how fun and rewarding this project could
be. What a SURPRISE!
It’s like a jigsaw puzzle. Bits and pieces of information from all
different kinds of sources. Just one
source does not tell the full story but as you continue to find more and more bits
of information, the story becomes alive.
And analyzing the information found is so rewarding. History has always been interesting but especially
so when you put your ancestor into that timeframe. It’s a great way to really understand what
and why they did what you imagine they did with the facts you uncover.
Now don’t get me wrong – it can be challenging and frustrating
too but that only adds to the excitement when you finally find that bit of
information.
The more one educates themselves
with the different techniques, tools, and methods for solving problems, the easier
it gets. I have discovered that no one
is an expert, no matter how long you have been researching. You are a newbie every time you start with a
new person and/or location to research. That
is the great thing about it. You are always
learning new things. Keeps the mind
fresh and motivated.
It’s not always easy.
Genealogy is time consuming, and solving difficult problems can be even
more so.
But what a great legacy to leave your family members!
Taking all the facts you have discovered and
put them into a story for future generations.
Stay tuned for stories of their lives as I uncover them……
