Tip for this Week

Today I thought I would share a TIP (or more) that seems to be a common thread when reading about other genealogist's journey.

Cite your sources - be sure to always keep this updated in your family history software.  It is so much easier to do it as you go then to try to update all the information later.  Even stories you have heard needs to be documented with dates and who told the stories.

Keep a research log - keeping a log will save you time in the long run.  This way you will know who and where you have researched and what you have found.  It's also important to note unsuccessful searches too.

Organize as you go - don't let a backlog build up.  You never want to feel overwhelmed.

Organizing System - use one that works for you.  Don't over complicate it or it will not stay organized.

Focus on one line or one family at a time - doing this will help you avoid being overwhelmed, and not go down the "rabbit hole" after stuff that may not be on your to do list.  It will keep you on task and organized.

The thrill of the hunt, the discoveries, the problem solving and the connections were the favorite aspects of genealogy research among the successful genealogists.

Thanks for stopping by,
Bobbie
